THE REGION

We are situated in the Charente which together with the Charente Maritime, Deux Sèvres and Vienne departments makes up the Poitou-Charentes, a beautiful area full of fields of golden barley, oats and sunflowers and not forgetting miles of grapevines. It is in the heart of the Cognac industry with many distilleries, not only the most famous, happy to open their doors to visitors.

There are lots of places to visit from the local village of Rouillac where a huge traditional market is held once a month, the fortified town of Angouleme, where the tour de ramparts, a race of vintage cars, is held each September, the beach resort of Royan, to the maritime port of La Rochelle.

Further afield but within an easy ride the larger towns of Perigueux and Bordeaux.

There is a wealth of history in the area from the Medieval graves of the Knights Templar, to the Compostelle pilgrim route; the Neolithic burial chambers to the Roman amphitheatres; and of course the Chateaux which abound in many different styles.

Ferme de L'Ouche is close to the thriving village of Aigre with local shops, bars and restaurants and traditional markets held in the square.
